Sugar – The Not So Sweet “White Death”

What does sugar do in our body?  Watch out for these top 8 damages!

  1. Sugar is the number one cause of inflammation in the body which is the precursor to disease.
  2. Sugar is highly addictive! I call it white cocaine and have seen so many people struggle with sugar addiction. The same part of the brain that gets addicted to things like cocaine and nicotine, is the very same part that gets addicted to sugar. The glucose in sugar is absorbed very quickly into the blood stream and sets of pleasure signals in the brain. A massive amount of dopamine is released into the brain. Sugar can be a mood booster as it sets of serotonin which is the  “happy hormone” and thus begins the sugar addiction. The more sugar we eat, the more our brain starts to deregulate the dopamine receptors and thus we need more and more sugar to get the same pleasurable feelings.
  3. Sugar Elevates the body’s uric acid which creates fatty liver, hypertension and kidney disease.
  4. Sugar is broken down into glucose and fructose. Our bodies need some glucose but we do not need fructose. The liver can only metabolize a certain amount of fructose and so we end up with fatty liver as the extra fructose is turned into glycogen which is then stored as fat.
  5. Sugar leads to insulin resistance.
  6. Sugar is full of nutrient-empty calories that makes us fat! There are no essential vitamins or minerals in sugar – they really are empty calories. It also causes weight gain as sugar suppresses ghrelin (the hunger hormone) whilst at the same time, stimulates leptin which is the hormone that controls are appetite.
  7. Sugar increases metabolic syndrome which is a precursor to diabetes. Metabolic syndrome will decrease the good cholesterol in your body but increase the bad cholesterol.
  8. Sugar raises the body’s insulin which makes the body a fabulous breeding ground for cancer.

The reality is, that it is not good fats that are driving up the obesity rates but rather the sheer amount of sugar that people are consuming.

Increasing scientific research is showing Sugar is not only toxic but also the cause of many major diseases. Here’s an excerpt from 60 Minute.
